Programs » Community EducationNDS's Community Education Project supports and complements its direct service work by participating in community events and responding to residents' questions and concerns about the criminal justice system, contact with the police, and the collateral consequences of arrests. Through educational workshops with tenant associations, social service agencies, and youth programs, NDS discusses with community residents the myths and realities of the criminal justice system, the appropriate role of law enforcement, and the rights and responsibilities of ordinary citizens. These meetings also provide an opportunity for NDS to let the community know about the variety of legal and social services offered by our office. NDS serves Manhattan Community Boards 9, 10, 11 and 12. Community Education activities occur throughout the year. For more information on the NDS Community Education Project, please contact Yalitza Serrano-Collado at YSerrano@ndsny.org. |
